NEW SAILS AND MORE

CATAMARAN CLINIC AT NSC

Newell Sailing Club's catamaran clinic went well with around 18 different types of catamarans taking part.  Winds were too strong Friday but just right on Saturday with lots of on the water activities.  Friday was spent working on boats and getting to know the new attendees.  There were a number of attendees who were interested in gettng a ride on a cat so hopefully we can develop some more cat sailors in the future. A number of new Seaspray sailors got involved and the club gained a few new members.  Looking forward to something similar for next year.  This event was open to all types of catamarans.  This was a three day event with the most attendance on Saturday.

BUYING NEW SAILS FOR YOUR SEASPRAY
I recently emailed Leitch and McBride in Sidney BC for a quote for a new set of halyard sails and the quote didn't seem too bad considering.  I received the following reply:

"Prices have increased a bit due to material costs mostly.

Main in laminate but the bolt rope version is $985.00 before tax FOB Sidney

The jib in laminate is $465.00 before tax FOB Sidney.

Let me know if you have questions.

Thanks

Paul

If you decide to order a set, remind them to make the sail bag 9' long and to roll the sails for shipping.  Folding the sails will leave a crease that may take a long time to disappear.

GST and shipping costs will be extra.

It's my opinion, but I think they make a very good quality product and are as good as the North sails that we now seem unable to get.

CLEW HOOK UPDATE

The "Dinghy Clew Hook", a Harken product, is working well, so far.  If you install it make sure you use a shock cord to keep tension on the hook.  You can see the shock cord in the picture below.  This hook attaches to the clew of the mainsail and stops the fumbling of attaching the clew to the boom.
