NEW EVENT FOR 2024

ALBERTA HERITAGE CLASSIC REGATTA  FROM: RICHARD QUINLAN In 2024 there will be an 'Alberta Heritage Classic' on July 19-21 at Calgary Yacht Club. It is part of the club’s celebration of 100 years of sailing on Chestermere Lake. Classic Alberta sailboats designed 55 or more years ago (1970 or earlier), are eligible. This will not be a large event, but it’ll be a fun event. We have interest from the Y Flyer, Fireball, and Lightning fleets, with 2-3 boats expected from each, plus a Comet and maybe a Flying Dutchman. SAILING SEASON COMING TO AN END   Below is a recent sunset at Lake Newell, Alberta.  A sight that hasn't been seen for many years, our lake was down substantially as the irrigation district struggled to keep enough water in the lake due to the drought conditions and other factors.  This photo reminds us of the sunset of this year's sailing season in most of Canada.  Perhaps now is a good time to start working on the boat and or trailer so that you are ready for next year. TRAILER REPAIRS & UPGRADES My trusty trailer has served me well over the last 20 years and has over 60,000 kilometres on it.  The wooden box was not in the best condition, however after a bit of work it is better and weather proof too. BEFORE AFTER It doesn't take a lot of maker skills to add a reinforced vinyl top to keep the water out.  I can still walk on the deck and the vinyl and plywood top is removable so the trailer can be used like a typical open utility trailer.  A...
