NEW EVENT FOR 2024

ALBERTA HERITAGE CLASSIC REGATTA

FROM: RICHARD QUINLAN

In 2024 there will be an 'Alberta Heritage Classic' on July 19-21 at Calgary Yacht Club. It is part of the club’s celebration of 100 years of sailing on Chestermere Lake. Classic Alberta sailboats designed 55 or more years ago (1970 or earlier), are eligible. This will not be a large event, but it’ll be a fun event. We have interest from the Y Flyer, Fireball, and Lightning fleets, with 2-3 boats expected from each, plus a Comet and maybe a Flying Dutchman. I’ve included a list of Alberta Classic Classes below, and you’ll see that Sea Spray is one of the classic classes!

Comet (1932)

Daily Mirror Dinghy (1962)

Enterprise (1956)

Finn (1964)

Fireball (1961)

Flying Dutchman (1951)

Flying Junior (1956)

International 14 (1928)

International Canoe (1886)

Lightning (1938)

OK Dinghy (1956)

Sabot & El Toro: (1939)

Sea Spray (1966)

Wayfarer (1957)

Y Flyer (1941)

There are still many details to be developed, but the regatta is confirmed, and I’m part of the committee and we’d like to get the word out. It’d be great if you could spread the word to drum up interest in the Sea Spray fleet. In addition to 2 days of racing (1-4 on Saturday 10-2 on Sunday), there’ll social events and some meals provided. Other centennial activities (displays, talks, etc.) will be happening, and a boat from each classic class will be displayed on the front lawn of the club Saturday evening.

Hope you’re both doing well!
Thanks!
