Look for events in your area to participate in.  Stay in contact with your fellow Seaspray sailors and consider travelling to other sailing areas where there are sailboat events.  Participate in your local sailing club’s activities and continue to promote our Seaspray class.

SAILING APPAREL

For dinghy sailing, you should dress for the water temperature, not the air. Always wear a well-fitting buoyancy aid, a wetsuit or drysuit,  specialized non-slip footwear, and/or a windproof spray top & pants. The key is layering to stay warm, protected from spray, and highly mobile.  Other factors is how much spray will be hitting you while on the water.  You can get cold even if the air temperature is in the 30’s Celsius if you don’t wear spray clothing.  Other factors are knee protection when moving on the boat.  Some garments have built up knee wear protection as this area can prone to a lot of contact and abrasion.  Remember about the sun as well.  You get a double dose from the sun itself and reflection from the water.  Cover up or use lots of sunblock.

Plan a trip to another lake this season

Look for a lake with camping and a destination to sail to.  Getting ready for travelling is easy for a lightweight boat.  A launching dolly will be a big help as it can provide other lake access launch sites that may not be available to trailer launched boats.  It will be more fun if you can involve other Seaspray sailors in your lake destination/camping activities too.

EQUIPMENT CORNER

Here are a few suggestions to make your sailing experience even better.

A lightweight tube can help with rolling up your sails.

A vinyl cover for your wood boat box on your trailer can help to keep things dry.

Make sure to vent the box.

A double support dolly in pieces for the storage box.  We have found that long term storage on a dolly can be risky as the bow tube/deck attachment can be damaged by snow or other hazards.  Support the hulls near the bow by some other means to avoid this potential damage.

Converting to 'rope' forestay — still seems to be holding up fine.  Jib luff wires are starting to be replaced with 'rope' forestays on new sails which makes rolling or folding the jib a much easier process.
NOTE: requires special, high strength, low stretch rope.
