SEASPRAY NATIONALS AND OTHER NEWS

SeaSpray Nationals Update

A Reminder to Register (online or in person at the event) for the upcoming Canadian Seaspray Nationals
Sept 5,6 and 7th.  You can also register Thursday night and Friday morning at Newell Sailing Club.  The NOR is at the bottom of this email.  Hosted by the Newell Sailing Club, Kinbrook Island Provincial Park, Alberta.  A short association meeting Friday or Saturday around 5pm.

The Storwicks are moving

A big change for the Osoyoos Sailing Club and our Seaspray fleet.  Stan and Donna are moving to Calgary to be closer to family.  Our fleet owes a big debt of gratitude to Stan's dedication to our little catamaran.  For a very long time his reserved promotion of our fleet has been a steady influence that has helped to keep us afloat.  Many improvements and rebuilds are directly related to Stan and Donna's(sewing) efforts.  Not only did they work on the boat they also organized lots of events over the years, wrote articles for the newsletter and welcomed many "new to Seaspray" sailors to the fleet.  We wish you all the best in Calgary and a great big thankyou!

An eMail From Ontario Owner

Hi I have a SeaSpray and have enjoyed being included in all your SeaSpray newsletters over the last 20 or so years.
One day I hope to sail against other SeaSpray 15s. Currently my SeaSpray is in bad need of repair and I may end up selling it for parts.
That aside, I have had a burning question for about the last 5 years since the SCHRS was created.

Are you folks using the SCHRS system when sailing against other cats? Obviously not needed for the class races but a lot of us sail against other boats.
Currently SCHRS has NO RATING for our beloved SeaSpray 15  https://www.schrs.com/
Not sure if you are aware but this is the go-to rating system and I would like to know what the seaspray 15 rating is.
And I think if you apply to SCHRS it should be someone from the SEASPRAY ASSOCIATION with all the measuments so that we have them correct to the class rules.

It will take some work I imagine but I would definitely reach out to them to see how we can get the SeaSpray on the list.

Let me know if you or someone in the SEASPRAY 15 assonciation intend to pursue this,

Kindest regards, hope some day I can get out west and learn some more about sailing SeaSpray.

A good winter time project anyone?

At present the D-PN for the Seaspray under the US Sailing Portsmouth number is 75 for (Mod. Can.) and 77.9 for the (Sea Moth-An AMF product of a long time ago)  Where the 75 came from is anyone's guess but that number has been used by race committees in mixed fleet regattas recently.   In the more distant past it was difficult to win events with a 78 handicap when racing against good sailors sailing Hobie 16s.  My feeling is that a class legal Seaspray handicap should be around 79 when sailing in a mixed fleet catamaran event.
