Look for events in your area to participate in.  Stay in contact with your fellow Seaspray sailors and consider travelling to other sailing areas where there are sailboat events.

A couple of individuals have come forward to join the Canadian Seaspray Association’s executive.  We welcome your comments and ideas for direction regarding the future of our association.  A short (30 minutes or less) Seaspray association meeting will take place May 2nd at Newell Sailing Club around 2 pm.  Topics.  Regatta dates firmed up at this meeting, item sales promotions, financials, and any other business.

The association’s goal is to promote the Seaspray sailboat and activities related to improving your Seaspray sailing skill.  Encourage fellow Seaspray sailors in your area to get together to participate in group sailing, sailing challenges, regatta participation and ‘work on your boat parties’.  Phone texting groups can help that work.  Set one up in your sailing area with other Seaspray sailors.

Storage Solutions A lot of sailing club sailboats are sold without a trailer.  If your club doesn’t provide a storage solution, create a storage container of either metal, wood or other material and consider making it at least 10’ long.  It should be big enough to hold your sails (rolled), boom, dagger boards and other bits and spares so that all of your sailing equipment is in one place and close to or next to your boat.  This will save having to remember to bring everything.

The boat trailer your Seaspray sits on may be worth more than your boat.  If your boat trailer is currently registered in Alberta that alone is worth nearly $300 (current cost of getting a VIN).  Oftentimes in ads, a comment stating that the trailer is not currently registered is a reason for a lower price.  Make sure if you buy a used trailer to get a bill of sale.  You will need the bill of sale to go through the process of getting it registered and plated.  Used, and potentially convertible to carrying a Seaspray, trailers are listed from a  low price of $600 to a more common $1500 and higher price.  12” tires and a minimum 1500 lb GW will allow you to safely carry your boat, storage container and dolly.

In Canada, new licensing requirements are starting in 2028 for sailboats over 6 meters long.  Luckily our Seasprays are shorter than 6 meters which would convert to 19’ 8.22”.  The licence is renewable every five years and costs $24 at this time.  My guess is the cost will be higher than $24 in 2028
