Some Correspondence…
"My parents bought our seaspray at the Toronto Boat show in 1976 when I was a teenager, and it has been at our Rideau Lakes cottage ever since. I've just sold it to a young lad in the area who wants to get better at sailing - it's his first boat and he was pretty excited when he test sailed it from our dock. It is seaworthy now, but between him, his Dad and his grandfather, I understand they'll be starting to fix it up over the winter. I hope the boat ignites a lifetime of interest in sailing for him, and I'm sure he'll be pouring over the archives for rebuild tips.
Thanks for the newsletters over the years - it's been nice to know there is still an active class around because I've never seen one in Ontario. "

REGATTA UPDATE
BeachCat Regatta/Canadian Seaspray
If you are travelling to Alberta from out of the province you must get your boat checked for invasive species (Zebra, Quagga mussels, etc.) at border boat check stations before travelling to Lake Newell. Bring proof, you had your boat checked and passed. You will also have to get checked by the local irrigation district (Eastern Irrigation District) and receive a sticker for your boat before launching into Lake Newell. These checks generally take less than five minutes.
Another important point to remember is to travel with your boat drain plugs out. You can be subject to a fine if you are checked and your boat drain plugs are in.

Rules
The regatta will be governed by the rules as defined in The Racing Rules of Sailing, Prescriptions of the National Authority and Applicable Class Rules. Sailing Instructions will be available on-site. A one boat turn exoneration of a rule breaking will be the accepted penalty.
Entries
Open to all catamaran classes.
The Sea Spray Championships are open to all Sea Sprays meeting the class rules. Canadian Sea Spray Association membership is required for Sea Spray sailors (Available on site and free). Other catamaran classes may not be restricted by their class rules governing this event.
Scoring
The low point scoring system in Rule A4 will be used. When 4 or more races have been completed, a boat’s series score will be the total of her race scores excluding her worst score. If 8 or more races have been completed, a boat’s series score will be the total of her race scores excluding her worst 2 scores. One race shall be completed to constitute a regatta.
Canadian Seaspray Entry Fee $60. BeachCat Single $60 Double $80

Camping and or Accommodation:
Remember to book your campsite in advance if staying at Kinbrook Island Provincial Park. Check the accommodations list on the Newell Sailing Club website for other accommodations nearby.
